Community Development Through Women's Empowerment: "PanArte"

Donor: JPMorgan Chase Foundation
Local Ally: Fundación Carlos y Sonia Haime
Beneficiaries: 60 female heads of households
Location: Cartagena, Colombia

The Carlos y Sonia Haime Foundation (FCSH) is a Colombian non-profit organization that seeks to promote inclusive development for the populations of Manzanillo del Mar and Tierra Baja by providing the necessary tools to enable them to become agents of their own economic growth, creating sustainable opportunities in the northern part of Cartagena. The Foundation focuses on the areas of health, education, and income generation.

Since 2010, Give To Colombia has worked with the foundation to financially empower 60 female heads of households living in this community by providing advanced financial literacy, accounting, management, marketing, sales and customer service workshops, and building and eventually expanding the bakery, "PanArte."

The project also gave those who showed more motivation the opportunity to become entrepreneurs and open a pastry shop. Psychosocial support was also provided to beneficiaries to encourage participation and motivation throughout the whole process. Finally, the project not only impacted these women but the entire Manzanillo del Mar community.

Thanks in part to the foundation's alliance with G2C, FCSH has received an anonymous donation and three grants, including a grant from Bank of America Charitable Foundation and two from JPMorgan Chase Foundation, in addition to three matching donations from Colombian government agencies Acción Social and APC.
